Lady Bird Johnson was born Claudia Alta Taylor in Karnack, Texas on December 22, 1912. Her parents were Thomas Jefferson Taylor and Minnie Pattillo Taylor, and she had two older brothers, Tommy and Tony. Her mother died when she was only five years old, and her Aunt Effie Pattillo moved to Karnack to look after her. Jack Orr Boyte was born in Charlotte, NC in 1919 and matriculated through Charlotte public schools, graduating from Charlotte Central High School in 1938. During WWII he was trained as a bomber pilot and served in the Pacific theatre. A chance meeting with an architect in the Philippeans inspired him to enroll in an architecture program at the Georgia Tech School of Architecture after his return from the war.
